Hello Leanne - In the 1881 census William and Racheal (note spelling) Copp were residing at Little Kennacott, Fremington ,Devon. William was 44 and born at Horwood and Racheal was 50 born at St Giles - this is all in the same area if you are not familiar with it. Wiliiam was an agricultural labourer. At that time he had three sons James 18 born in Newton Tracey and also an agricultural labourer.Henry 15 born at Westleigh and a domestic servant (farm) and Robert 11 born Horwood again a domestice servant (farm). There was a daughter aged 11 born Horwood and she was listed as a scholar.
I have also found a John Shambrook who was 22 so could be William's eldest son but this has to be confirmed. He was a farm servant (indoor) and worked for George Pethebridge a farmer with 290 acres at Borough, Alverdidscott. Also working for George Pethebridge at that time was Annie Copp-servant general who was aged 14 and born in Alverdidscott. It is a reasonable assumption that Annie may have been a niece of Racheals.
Let me know if I can help further. I have the 1851 census too so when I get some time I'll check for other Shambrooks.
