I, too, am looking for Black/Native American Coppages.I can trace back to my great great great great grandmother, Winnie (census has her as Minnie) Coppage b. South Carolina. She had at least one son, Bill who was b. in Georgia. They settled in Southern Middle Tennessee. She was reported to have been a free woman of color.Light skinned with hair so long she could sit on it.Old folks say she was a witch.
Here is some of my family tree:
Winnie Coppage, 1 son Bill
Bill m. Nancy Pamplin had at least 6 kids: John, Rosa, Laura, Newt, Porter, and Jones
John m. Ollie Mattie Victoria Buchanan had 14 kids only
11 survived past childbirth:
Bill, Margaret(Boots), Frances, Mamie, Mary (Teen),
Lucille, John Warren, James, Virgana, and Robert
(Bobby) Lee, Thomas, and Dicie
Rosa m. Jesse(Bud)Vance m. Willie Vick. She had 10
children by Bud.None by Willie Vick.
Willie Evelyn, Alice, Bertha, Mary, Billy Bob, Ike,
John Thomas, Lindell, Bessie Stinett
Laura never married. No children
Newt m. Lily March.They had 4 kids:
Elizabeth, Nancy Harriet, Norma Jean
Porter m. Mattie Hendersen.No children
Jones m. Lizzy (?).Had 2 kids.
Frances, Dora Mae
This is just two generations after Winnie. Please let me know if any of them rings a bell.Thanks.
