Why was Grandpa's middle name Coppedge???

I've never known the reason (if there is one) that my grandfather's middle name was Coppedge. Since it is an unusual name, I am hoping that might be a clue to some of my ancestors. Here is what I know about his family:

Andy Coppedge BULLARD (b 1899, Van, Van Zandt Co, TX; d 1988, Tyler, Smith Co, TX).

Nathan Andrew Hubbard BULLARD (b 30 Aug 1847, Henderson Co, TN; d 28 Jun 1920, Brownsboro, Henderson Co, TX) m 2nd Rebecca Ann BAILEY (b 3 Sept 1860, Hot Springs, Saline Co, AR; d 13 Aug 1939, Tyler, Smith Co, TX). Rebecca was the daughter of John BAILEY and Martha ROLAND.

Nathan BULLARD (b ca 1805; d ca 1851, Henderson Co, TN) m Susan ____________ (b ca 1809 AL, d aft 1860, TX).

Anyone familiar here?
