On the 26th of March, a company consisting of 9 men, 2 women & eight children, on their way to this state, were attacked about five miles from the Hazle Patch toward Larel river, about an hour before sun set, by a party of Indians supposed to be about thirty. The nine men dismounted and defended the women and children for about fifteen minutes, during which time they fired four or five rounds, but being over powered and the Indians closing on in all sides, the whole were killed or taken, except four who escaped, on of which is dangerously wounded.
Names of the killed and missing... Joel Corder and his family; James Anthony and family; Mathews Flourney; _____ Spilman and Thomas Peniston, James Jones, wounded.Robt. Hill, James M. Farland and William Anthony escaped unhurt.______ the above account is given by one of hte men who escaped.
We are just now informed that Penniston and one of the children, that was missing has since come in.
KENTUCKY GAZETTE Vol. #VI, No. XXX, April 13, 1793
We are informed that a party of men under Maj. Wheatly who went to the place where the company was defeated in the Wilderness on the 26th ult. have returned, and brought in with them the most of the horses and baggage belonging to the party defeated, as also two of the children that were missing -- it is supposed some sudden alarm caused the Indians to leave the ground immediately, by means of which the children were preserved. They also found and brought in a child that was taken by the Indians from a company they defeated about the first of March. It had straggled off from their camp whilst they were making the attack on the company of the 26th-The children had suffered very much for want of food.

iv. James Corder (Source: This line has not been proven and is only here for a "possible connection".), born 1734 in Fauquier County, Virginia; died Abt. 1792; married Elizabeth George.
Marriage Notes for James Corder and Elizabeth George:
Elizabeth George of Culpeper Co. Va was the wife of James Corder. She is
mentioned in the will of her father in Culpeper Co. This is Claude's direct
line, and I have some of the George family. Nancy Halvorson picked up on this
Elizabeth and ask me about her, but I did not answer. I just do not want
anyone messing with Claude's direct line, as it is documented. In the lease
of James Corder, Fau. Co. 1760 his wife, Elizabeth and son, William is
mentioned. I just wish I could prove which William Corder was James and
Elizabeth Corder's son. Nancy ask if William Corder that appeared in
Shenandoah Co. Va ca 1792(child married in this county in 1792) was the son
of James and Elizabeth. I do not have one iota of proof, so I do not claim
anything. All I do know is that Wm. son of James and Elizabeth did not travel
to Spartenburg Co. SC when his brother, Elias and family went.
Here is another William Corder. He fought in Rev War from SC. When we visited
John Corder of Chester, SC he said that his grandfather's Bible had written
in it that this family lived in Va, moved to NC and then settled in SC. John
Corder's grand aunt said she had read this entry many time, but the bible
burned when John's grandparents house burned.
Now a little history. There was a dispute between NC and SC over the northern
boundary line and at one time, Spartenburg Co. was considered as NC, so this
Wm. Corder may not moved, just had the state name changed when the boundary
was settled. Again, I have no idea who this Wm. Corder of Chester,Edgefield
and Fairfield Counties were, but there have been research done on this line
before Claude and I started, as some of this line are Mormans. Raymond corder
of OK and Tommy Corder of OR are from this line of Corders. Estelle
