Hello Barbara,
My Allen family goes as follows:
Joseph Allen married Catherine Ph(o)enix (according to IGI circa 1862).He was born in Lurgan 1840 and died 1890 (latter confirmed by death cert). She was born 10 Dec 1844 and died 10 Dec 1893 (110 years ago about now!, her death required a coroner's inquest as per death cert (in my possession)
I have found baptismal records on the following of their children although I know from Joseph's will there were two other children:
Baptismal records found for
Jane Anna Phoenix Allen (my great grandmother)
Alexander CORDNER Allen
Lillie Roberta Allen
Francis Frederick Allen
john Phoenix Allen
Sarah Julia Allen
Joseph Allen (emigrated to Australia and KIA WW1)
The other two children are David and William James (The latter became an MP)
My intrigue is with Alexander Cordner Allen.
On looking again at the Will calendar in NIreland;Catherine Phoenix father was John Phenix of Dougher - he died 1865 leaving a widow. His widow was Margaret and it is clear that she was the mother as Joseph Allen is one of her executors. On looking at IGI John Phoenix married Margaret CORDNER (14 Feb 1836) which would explain the middle name of her grandson.I have no other supporting evidence ....... yet.
IGI also suggests that Margaret's father may have been Robert and Catherine - at least these are the parents I am going for as Margaret's will clearly refers to son Robert (already in America); William and Thomas and also daughters catherine and Annie.
I know my Allen's were Methodists.I don't yet have a death cert for Margaret Phoenix (presumably nee Cordner) but that should be possible as both she and her husband died after registration in Ireland. He died 1865 and she in 1874
Does this help?
I look forward to hearing from you again
Clare
