I have seen some discussion about this couple in this forum. I have seen Sarah listed as the daughter of Thomas Corey and Sarah Taber. I have also seen Sarah, daughter of Thomas Corey and Sarah Taber married to Abraham Brown and Robert Burrington. The Sarah that married Phillip Gray is my ancestor and her parents are a mystery. I made a list of the Sarah Coreys that I found were born between 1700-1710, per databases, and this is that list and what I have found on the internet about each:
1. b ca 1700 Portsmouth, RI to William Corey and Martha Cooke, m James Strange
2. b 17-7-1701 Chelmsford, MA to Jonathan Corey and Sarah Russell
3. b 1709-1710 Tiverton to Thomas Corey and Sarah Taber, m to Abraham Brown and Robert Burrington
4. b 11-1-1708 Westerly, RI to James Corey and Sarah Lamphier
5. b 5-10-1706 East Greenwich, RI to Elisha Corey and Ellen
I find very little on Elisha Corey (son of John Corey and Elizabeth Gasasett) and Ellen, not even her family name. However, from extracted records they had at least 6 children and I would expect more, as there is a huge gap between the first and second recorded in East Greenwich:
I would guess the family lived in a different place between Sarah and Jonathan's births. Is anyone else researching these people? Does anyone know of other children of this couple? I think this could be the family of the Sarah that married Phillip Gray. In the list of Sarahs above, 2 were married to other men and 2 were quite a distance away from the Tiverton-Little Compton area where the Gray family was. This daughter of Elisha and Ellen seems the most logical.
I would like to hear from anyone who has information about this Sarah or about the Elisha and Ellen family. Perhaps if we could find other children born between 1706 and 1723 we could check for naming patterns or at least discover where the family was in those years.
I am posting this on both the Corey and Cory forums.
