The following is excerpted from an 1878 newspaper article describing the "thriving" businesses in newly incorporated PARKERVILLE, Kansas in Morris County, Kansas.
One of the best hotels in Central Kansas, kept by Mr. H.N. Cory. For just as sure as we want a 'square meal' we strike the Western about 'that time a day'. In connection with the house is a saloon and restaurant, kept by
who is one of the boys. Dan keeps an orderly house and has a billiard table in connection with the bar. Those who 'indulge' can always find a refreshing beverage by calling on Dan, for he keeps a supply of beer, wines and liquors on hand at all times. He is a square man and a clever gentleman, and has many friends. . ."
I am interested in this family. I am specifically looking for a VALENTINE Cory/Corey who apparently lived in this same place at this time.
A short history written by my Grandmother about my Father's birth and name. . .Hugh VALENTINE Leitch. . .states he was named Valentine after a young man much admired by my Grandfather. My own Father was called VAL his entire life.
