I have a John Corey (middle name unknown) born 1838 in New York State. However instead of Benjamin, I have as his father John S. Corey b 1800 d after 1870.

(If our John Coreys are the same, "Brother marries widow" could explain the discrepancy, perhaps, but that's total conjecture. One of us could simply have a wrong name for the father.)

Wife of John S. Corey (the father) is Catherine (Unknown) b 1820, New York State, died after 1910.

Siblings are: Mary b. 1837; the subject, John Corey b. 1838; Samuel Corey b. 1841; William Corey b. 1843; George S. Corey (my 2nd great grandfather) b 11 Nov 1844, d 1 Apr 1927; Hannah Corey b 1848; Elisha Corey b 12 May 1850.

Click my name and check previous postings. George S. Corey had two wives named Mary. I deduce his first family flourished 1860-1870. First Mary died leaving 3 Corey children (Samuel, Fred [Elfred?] and Frank) and a half-sister (Catherine). We have nothing on the first Mary. Can you provide county info on your John Corey? It might help us find George's family in NY in a US Census or whatever.

Post advice or send email (click my name for email address) if you think we have a connection. I have photos including a 1920's Corey & Mittan 37-person photo if you want to look for strong resemblances. Some of the subjects need ID.

Lou
