Hi Gavin, I had a very busy August (one of my sons was getting married) .. and just found your message.
Whatever CORKILL information I have found was basically from the LDS records. And, I found that my CORKILL ancestors were probably in Lezayre, IOM, for many years.
While searching at the LDS site, I did see other Corkill names from other parts of IOM, but I don't think I made note of them ..
My Evan CORKILL probably moved off of IOM .. around the time he married .. He was born in 1827, so he probably married somewhere around 1850. Because I cannot find out where or when he married .. Elizabeth ____, I don't know where they moved to. (Of course, they could have lived in another part of IOM.) ???
I also cannot find out if they had children between 1850 and 1858 .. .. I know about their 5 children born between 1859 and 1871, but do not know if they had older siblings.
... I just checked my folder of papers, and I see that John and Esther CORKILL (Lezayre) had about 9 or 10 children born between 1823 and 1837. Besides Evan, their sons were John, William, Robert, James, and Lewis.
I just re-read your note, and see that your CORKILL family came to Canada in 1881. That is around the same time that the "Home Children" were coming over (~1860 to ~1930). Which province did your family go to?
