My father tells me that his Cormack lineage goes back to Caithness, Scotland. I also understand from him that the Cormacks originated in Ireland and some moved to Caithness in the late 13th/early 14th century, around the time that William Wallace and Robert the Bruce lived.

I was born in Aberdeen, Scotland, but my father, William Ryrie Cormack, is from Edinburgh, born 1927. He had a brother named John Lawrence Cormack. My grandfather, also David Alexander Cormack, was born in Edinburgh, around 1900. Part of his family were well known grocers in Leith, near Edinburgh.

I do not know when they moved from Caithness to the central belt of Scotland. I now live in the States and would appreciate any advise from other Cormacks on how to research my family tree.
