seeking help

I'm trying to research my father's side of the tree and it's proving difficult. I don't have much information to go on as my parents divorced when I was very young, my Grandfather (James Cormack d1990s) had rather a lot of children out of wedlock apparently and it all seems a bit of a mess!

My great grandfather was James Daniel Cormack b 1897 in Dennistoun, Glasgow. He fought in WW1 but I've no idea how to find out about that, and I think his wife was Catherine (my great grandmother). They moved to Aberdeen although I'm not sure at what point.

Can anyone help?
