Mary Adams m. about 1826 to Peter Cornstalk/Avey in AR
Please if you are a descendant of this relationship contact me at [email protected] know that Mary Adams daughter of Robert Adams and Elizabeth Ferguson did in fact marry someone named Peter Cornstalk at the Wolf House in Norfork, AR in 1826.The ceremony is well documented. But that is as far as the information goes.It has been rumored that Peter Cornstalk and his brother John had come to the AR territory and then after that 1830 decree they changed their names from Cornstalk to Avey to avoid being forced to leave the territory. Our data has it that their mother was a Mary Frances Avey and that they took her maiden name as their surname.I have no proof.I can find NO record of descendants but an article published in the Baxter County Bulletin gave an account of Peter's death. It seems his home was attack because of his Indian heritage. He hid in the chimney but gun shots were fired up the chimney and when the raiders left, the mortally wounded Cornstalk climbed down and died in a nearby cornfield. The article stated that this was handed down by his descendants, BUT I can locate NO descendants. So if you are a descendant please contact me.On the Adams side, I know Mary's family, but it is very sketchy also. The had a brother Peter F. Adams who married Lucinda Wolf, daughter of Major Jacob Wolf. She had a sister Elizabeth Adams who married Michael Wolf IV, brother of the Major Jacob Wolf. She had sister Kate, nothing known. She had a brother Robert who married Martha Jane Lloyd and it shows five children all born in MO.I can not trace any of these children. Please help if you have any clue at all.
