My CORSO family started out in Termini Imerese. Greatgreat grandfather was Salvatore Corso(date of birth unknown) who married Guiseppina (born 1854 or 55)SANSONE. They had 6 children, all born in Termini. The oldest son Ignazio (born 1882), daughters Rosa (1879), Augustine (1884), Salvatore (1888), Sara (1891 or 92) and Lena.
They made their home in St. Louis, MO. Oral history has said that they came when daughter Rosa (my great grandmother) was 12, which would have been 1891. I have not found them on a ship as of yet. When I found Rosa on the 1900, 1910 and 1920 census she gives 1894 as the year of arrival.
Some things I know about this Corso family-
Guiseppina died after sustaining a fall off of her back porch.
She and daughter Sarah lived on Carr St. in St. Louis in 1920.
One of the 2 sons was involved in major league baseball. My mom always said he was an umpire.
One of the 2 sons married a woman who had a black parent, they always refered to her a a mulato or "The Lady"
Ignazio's nickname was Willie, Salvatore was known as Charlie.
Rosa married Giovanni PARISI in 1899. They moved to Detroit, MI. They had 8 daughters.
Augustine married Vincenzo LOPICCOLO in St. Louis where many of her grandchildren still reside. Her husband sold bananas, she had a son, Dr. Vincent LOPiccolo and a grandson, Dr. Jim who is a practicing pediatrician in St. Louis.
Sara married a Viviano and had sons Tony (1911) and Charlie (1912).
Lena married Frank Camaratta and they had children, Charlie, Tony, Joe, Willie, Lucy and Josie.
Guiseppina had a sister that lived in Cleveland. Her married name was Mirabella
Salvatore had a sister. Her married name was Lo Buono.
