As far as I can tell, Corwith is a name that was developed after the family came to the US (before 1644).The family is still famous as one of the old families of eastern Long Island (Suffolk County, NY), having settled there about 1650 (and through the centuries having married into all the old great original families).The historic society in Bridgehampton or Southampton is in the Corwith house. My Corwiths left LI about 1800.There was a branch who moved to New Jersey (and Maryland?), but I'm not sure when.
