Coryell/Coriell DNA
I encourage males with the surname Coryell or Coriell to check out the "Correll DNA Genealogy Project" and consider getting involved. It is open to all males with surnames Corell, Coryell, Coriell, Corril, Korell, Corrello, Corelli, etc.
Check out the project's website:

So far, my father is the only "Coryell" or "Coriell" participating.
He opted for the 37 marker test. Results indicate he belongs to haplogroup I1a. Here is what Family Tree DNA, the project's DNA testing company, says about this haplogroup:
"The I1a lineage likely has its roots in northern France. Today it is found most frequently within Viking / Scandinavian populations in northwest Europe and has since spread down into Central and Eastern Europe, where it is found at low frequencies."
So, my father's DNA testing produced a result that is consistant with the tradition that Coryells came from France.
We need more Coryells and Coriells to participate in this study. Most of the other participants are Corrells, and the results (27 total participants as of this posting) clearly show they are not related to my father.
If more Coryells and Coriells participated in this project, how would their results compare with my father's? I would expect the results to match perfectly, but you never know until you test.
FYI--Here is a sketch of my father's ancestry, beginning with my father:
Otho Coryell (b. in Illinois)
Arthur Elmer Coryell (1887-1930; b. and d. in Illinois)
John Henry Coryell (1860-1930; b. and d. in Illinois)
Jeremiah G. Coryell (1838-1894; b. in N.J.; d. in Illinois)
Richard F. Coryell (1794/95-1845; b. and d. in N.J.)
I would like to thank Vince Correll for coordinating the "Correll DNA Genealogy Project."
