NOT SO SURE THE NAME COSMAN IS GERMAN. I HAVE A CREST/SHIELD OF COSMAN THAT IS IRISH. JUST BECAUSE THE NAME ENDS IN "MAN" DOES NOT NECESSARILY MEAN IT IS GERMAN ALTHOUGH THE IRISH AND SCOTS DID EMPLOY GERMAN STONE CUTTERS FOR THE BUILDING OF THEIR CHURCHS AND MONASTERIES. I SURPOSE THAT COULD ACCOUNT FOR THE MANY SCOTTISH AND IRISH NAMES ENDING IN MAN. MORE RESEARCH NEEDED. MY GREAT GRANDFATHER WILLIAM AND HIS BROTHER SYLVESTER COSMAN MIGRATED TO BOSTON FROM ST. J0HN, N.B. IN THE 1870'S AND THEY CONSIDERED THEMSELVES SCOT'S ALTHOUGH THEIR MOTHER'S MAIDEN NAME WAS HEEPBURN (HEPBURN). I AM TRYING TO FIND A FAMILY CONNECTION OF THE COSMAN'S IN ST. JOHN TO MY GREAT GRANDFATHER. ANY SUGGESTIONS ON HOW TO START MY SEARCH? DOES ANYONE KNOW WHEN THE FIRST COSMAN ARRIVED THERE AND FROM WHERE HAD THEY COME?
