TO THOSE POSTING HERE:

Cosman is most likely from a German origin (would have been KOSSMAN, KOSMAN, or maybe KOZMAN if from Eastern Europe).

Looking at Canada's phone book using - http://www.canada411.com - there are 267 COSMAN, 27 KOSMAN, and 23 KOSSMAN names listed.

Of the 267 COSMAN names, Ontario has 79 listed (29.6%), followed by New Brunswick with 72 (27.0%) and Nova Scotia's 58 (21.7%). Another 29 (10.9%) are in British Columbia, with 20 in Alberta (7.5%). THis makes up 96% of the total COSMAN spellings in Canada. This is obviously the most common spelling of this name in Canada.
________________________________

Using - http://www.people.yahoo.com/ - the names in the USA are roughly divided as follows:

TOTAL of ALL in USA = ca. 945

COSMAN - ca. 340 (36.0%)
KOSMAN - ca. 260 (27.5%)
KOSSMAN - 159 (16.8%)
COSSMAN - 140 (14.8%)
KOZMAN - 46 ( 4.9%)
COZMAN - 2
________________________________

What all this really means is that this is NOT a really common surname anywhere in Canada or the USA.
