Hi, My name is Larry Cosman for Newburgh(Middlhope),NY. I am the 9th generation Cosman from the believed earliest Johannes Kausman(Kozman...etc.)in America. Johannes is believed to have come from Holland to NJ in the mid 1600's. There are many versions of the history that talks of three sons and a daughter who's parents died on their way to America. But the boys were under 21 years of age, and although their passage was paid, they were bound out to work for a miller in New Brunswick, New Jersey. There was a John Cosman naturalized in NJ 12/6/1769 that seems likely to be a decendant from one of the original brothers. One of the second generation sons (Johannes Cosman)came up to Middlehope,Ulster Co. NY and took a land grant overlooking the Hudson River and became farmers. There is talk that another second generation son named Jacob fled from Middlehope to Nova Scotia to avoid the Revolutionary War. We have the "Cosman Cemetery" here that has Johannes Cosman b. 1721 d. 9/15/1810 along with his wife Barbara(VanZandt)b. 1723 d. 1/13/1801. There are probably 50 family decendants buried here. I found your web information by accident and thought you might enjoy the info. I'd be happy to share any additional information you'd like. My e-mail is Regards Larry Cosman
