Martha J. Simms, shown as step-daughter to either Susan A. (Rodman) or her husband Archibald Jennings is most likely Susan's daughter by a previous marriage. In the 1870 federal census of New York City, 12th District, there is an Isaac Simms, age 30, and his wife, Susan, aged 21, and their daughter, Martha J., age 8 months. In 1860, Isaac Simms was on the census in Crawford, Orange County, NY, single. In 1880, Susan and her daughter are shown with Archibald Jennings and there is no listing for Isaac Simms. In 1910 and 1920, Susan A. Jennings is shown as a widow in Belfast, Allegany County, NY. I have to do further investigation to see if this is in fact, the same Susan and Martha.
