The Causton One-Name Study recently been asked to take part in a research project based at University College, London, by a team exploring the spread of Viking ancestry in England and how different kinds of Y Chromosomes relate to different surnames. This is a wonderful opportunity to find out if you have common ancestors with other Castons and to see if there is a link to the Causton surname.
The work is funded by the research project and there is no expense involved to us. The volunteer has to give a sample wiped from inside the mouth. This is simple, takes about ten minutes and is painless! Since all family groupings share the same genetic make up, only one sample is required from each family. Relatives such as sons, uncles and fathers need not be included as they will all share the same Y chromosome.
The volunteer must be male and have the Caston/Casten surname. Please let me know the postal address of any volunteer.
The results would be confidential to the volunteer. However we are asking volunteers to share their results with us so we can learn more about family groupings and link families where the connection has not yet been found in surviving documents.
