Dear Veronica,

I was delighted to get your message.

My James Cottam was born ca. 1750. He was in Colchester County, Nova Scotia by 1788 when he married Mary Wilson, daughter of Thomas Wilson and Mary McDormond.

Their children were: Mary, Agnes, Jane, James, Thomas, Susan, John, William, Sarah, Joseph, Robert, Elizabeth, Rebecca, and Rachel.

The 1st daughter and the 1st son, James and Mary, respectively, appear to have been named after their parents.

The 2nd son, Thomas could have been named after his wife's father.

I'm guessing that his mother's name may have been Agnes, since that was his 2nd daughter's name. His father was probably James (like his own name), Thomas (like his father-in-law) or John, his 3rd son's name. This is strictly conjecture on my part.

Anything that you can add to this would be appreciated.

Wilma High
