Hi! My great great-grandmother was Jane Cottam. I know she was from England (I think Lancashire). She married a man named Henry Van (or Von) Buhring, and they moved to the United States. I know that she was related to Harold Cottam, perhaps an aunt. I know this because of an old newspaper clipping that the family in England had sent to her daughter (my great-grandmother). It was the story of Harold Cottam's role in the Titanic rescue (a "local hero" sort of story). I remember seeing the clipping at my great aunt's house when I was a kid (I am 43). I have recently learned that her son still has the clipping and has framed it.
Anyway, I recently came across an excellent web site with alot of detail about Harold Cottam. The address is: www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Theaters/7937/cottam.html If this address doesn't work, do a search for Harold Cottam on Yahoo, and it is the second match that comes up. You might be able to find some info that will be of value to you. I am still hoping to get more info on Jane Cottam and find out exactly what her relationship to Harold Cottam is, as well as finding out about her ancestry as she is as far back as I have gotten so far. I am hoping that the Harold Cottam connection may shed some light on her ancestry since they share some of it.
