Dear L. Renz:

I am the grandson of Hazel Blanche Waterman Husfloen, the daughter of Harry Waterman and Nora Coulson. My grandmother was born in Iowa in 1897, their only surviving child. Harry and Nora were married in 1891 and I know Nora's family was from the area of Armstrong and Esterville. Her father was William H Coulson. I'm not sure of her mother's name but it probably was the Jane you mentioned. I have a photo of William H. and his second wife, Rebecca. My grandmother did quite a bit of research on both sides of her family but, unfortunely, since her death in 1984, I haven't come across any material she had on her grandfather Coulson. I do recall her telling me that she found that he had died in a veteran's home in Iowa because he was a Civil War veteran. That would tie-in with the information posted in 2000 by Kathy Ellis Cagle. My grandmother also found, I believe, that William H. Coulson had come from England in the 1850s. I would love to take the Coulson's back to Cambridgeshire, England. If possible I may look into Civil War enlistment records for William H. and also find info on veteran's homes in Iowa. My grandmother apparently never knew her Grandfather Coulson, although she kept in touch with cousins around Armstrong and Esterville. As a young girl she lived most of the time with her paternal grandparents since her mother had a complete "breakdown" at the time of her birth and her father, a blacksmith-lumber merchant, spent most of his time on the road.

I'm a bit confused by your listing - I assume William and Jane were husband and wife - but you list Jane as being the daughter of a William Coulson and Ann Baily while William's parents were William Coulson and Mary Worley. Which William is which? I assume you refer to William (H.) and Jane as having emigrated from Cambridgeshire in the 1850s. Is that correct?

Hope perhaps this will help you and maybe you can share other details with me.

Sincerely,
Kyle Husfloen
