I've got a George Bell Coulson born around 1850 in Birtley. His father was from Wylam, Northumberland and hios mother (surname unknown, possibly Bell) from Lanchester, Northumberland. My MIL is descended from Bells in the area, originally from Cumbria but lieving around Towlaw in the late 19th C.

So not Gatheshead but not very far away!
