I have unearthed a little about the name change at last...it would seem that the DeCoursey name DID actually become many other names during the 1700's i've just hit on a website called Dutch Uncle hosted by Bill DeCoursey. After a very quick squizz through it i did see a mention of the name change when the Dutch immigrants(DeCourseys!)changed their name to avoid conflict with the Indians who were fighting with the French. The address is www.teachout.org/du/decoursey1750.html..you never know it might be of some relevance later on in our quest
All the best Diane
