Hi Judith,
Not much is known about Anne Coursey, becausein a sense she didn't exist.Tristram was most probably married to an Anne King in London.I forget the date at the moment. The belief that Tristram married Anne Coursey is primarily due to a incorrect assumption by many early researchers of the Thomas family of a land record between MAJOR William Coursey and Tristram Thomas and the error is largely due to the incorrect assumption that MAJOR William Coursey (brother of Henry Coursey, etc.) and COLONEL William Cousey were one in the same, when in fact they were, repsectively, father and son, the father being Major WIlliam Cousey who died in the 1680's or so, I apoligize as I'm writing this from memory and I forget the exact date.In any case, in a land record, Major William Cousey refers to Tristram as his brother-in-law.Since it is easily learned to whom COLONEL William Coursey was married, it was assumed that Tristram must have married his sister.Again, the error by reseachers is due to not understanding that William of the land deed was an elder William Coursey, and not the younger Colonel William Coursey.
The Elder WilliamCoursey, Major William Coursey, can be shown to have married Juliana (THOMAS) Beedle Russell by information givenin land records in Maryland and marriage records in England. She was first married to Henry Thomas and second to Capt. John Russell.(While Juliana married both Henry Beedle and John Russell in England, both Henry and John were in Maryland at various times.
If memory serves me, she did not have any children by John Russell, but did have a son and a daughter by Henry Beedle, both of whom, the children, livedin Maryland.
Tristam Thomas, as shown by records in England, would appear to have had a sister named Juliana, named for his mother Julian(a).Hence, the reason for the reference to "my brother-in-law" by William Coursey when referring to Tristram Thomas of Wye River.
Also by the way, while Tristam's father is named Christopher Thomas, his father is not Christopher Thomas of Maryland who died in 1670, as you will often seen reported. This latter Christopher appears to be Tristram's eldest brother Christopher Thomas.
Jay
