Obit - COURT Margaret Anne
COURT Margaret Anne February 24, 1922 - May 9, 2009 Safe at last with the Lord. After a heroic battle with pancreatic cancer Margaret passed away, peacefully, at home with her family (& nurse Marjorie) by her side. Left to mourn are her husband Doug, daughter Lorna, sister-in-law Marion (Midge) Shields, cousin Bill Turnbull, and many treasured friends. She filled her 87 years with life and love, curiosity and adventure. (Margaret was predeceased by her parents Robert Hurst and Helen Turnbull Hurst.) Margaret was born in Calgary, Alberta, where she met Doug at a wiener roast in 1939. They married in 1941 and during their 68 year marriage Margaret shared in Doug's 14 years with the Royal Canadian Navy (living from Halifax to Victoria) and 30+ years with CKNW radio in New Westminster. Along the way she formed lasting friendships with many of his colleagues. She devoted most of her life to managing her family, but as a young woman worked as a tailor in her father's shop in Calgary, and after Lorna graduated, Margaret managed the constituency office of a Member of Parliament in Burnaby for 2 years, then spent 10 years as a real estate researcher for Teela Data Services - and occasionally taught piano. In retirement Margaret, Doug, and Lorna travelled to every continent - or, as she would say "shopped her way around the world". With uncomplaining spunk she had overcome Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis, Lung and Colon cancer, and, after a dog attack, reconstructive surgery. Over these last 11 months she bravely battled the cancer, and amazed the doctors! But at last God has taken away her suffering. Margaret's world revolved around her family and friends, and she will be deeply missed. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, May 22nd at 1 pm at Ocean View Funeral Home-- 4000 Imperial (at Boundary) in Burnaby. Reception to follow. No flowers please. Donations to a charity of your choice appreciated.
