Sarah Ann Cousens was my great grandmother. She was born in Little Mongeham and baptised at Sutton by Dover on 3 Oct 1858.She had a sister, Emily Jane, who was also born in Little Moneham and baptised at Sutton by Dover on2 Oct 1859.Their parents were George Cousens and Sarah Wraight.George was born in Guston and Sarah was born in St. Margaret’s.The couple was married in St. Margaret’s on 20 Dec 1856 when both were aged 19.The marriage document lists George’s father as George (labourer) and Sarah’s father as Richard (labourer – see Wraight Family).Witnesses were Eliza Johnson and William Wraight.
The 1891 census shows George and Sarah Cousens (both aged 53) living atWaldershare on Easling Down Farm.Living with them is grand daughter Sarah (age 6) and George’s mother Mary (aged 76, born in Lyminge). In 1901 Sarah is a widow living at 12 St. Andrews Terrace, Dover. She is listed as a retired Farmer. Living with her are her grand daughters, Sarah Goldsack (16, ) and Florence E. Ward (20, Kingsland, London)
*NoteCharles Cousens was married at Little Mongeham in 1827 to Mary Horne
Elizabeth Cousens was married at Little Mongeham in Dec 1828 to James Sutton
The above Charles was buried at Sutton by Dover 14 Mar 1872 (aged 70)
I found my Cousen family living at Crow Hill, Guston, Kent in 1841:
COUSINSGeorge aged 40Agricultural labourer
Mary aged 35
Eliza aged 9
George aged 3
John aged 1 month
I have not been very successful in branching out beyond this family. If you have connected this family to the people you are looking for I would be most interested to hear from you. I have a website http://www3.telus.net/goldsack/http://www3.telus.net/goldsack/ that has the above information plus mush more on my other related families.
Thanks and good luck
Larry Goldsack
