Hi Nancy
No, I don't believe you are related to my line.My line came over from England in the 1740's.My James Coward was likely an indentured servant, he married Miss Weaver in abt 1742 in Rutherford NC.They had 11 children. Peter b nov 13 1771, Jonathan b 1774, Sarah b 1780, Milicent, b 1790, Rebecca b 1792, female coward b 1797,Margaret aft 1810.
I have all this information because a pair of Aunts two generations ago, spent almost thirty years tracing our family. The trail dies there though, as there was three James Coward around that time. Also, at about that time, the name changed to Cowart. The Civil War was on, and this may be an avenue for you to start with.Census records, birth and death records may be under Coward or Cowart, sometimes interchangably.I know this was the case at that time period for my Coward/Cowarts.No one wanted to appear as a "coward" after losing a war.(As he was from Georgia, or so the story goes). This may open the way for you to locate information about your relatives. I would start withtheir date of birth and work from there, if there is any documents, such as birth or death records, or places land was owed this will be of great help to you.
Happy hunting.
Sincerely
Sue
