Further to my recent message. My e-mail is not working properly at the moment, although I am checking regularly to see if there has been any response. It is only recently that Ihave found out the christian name of my great grandfather from my grandmother's marriage certificate. Little else is known about him although he is believed to have been born in Ireland County Wicklow. Supposedly they were tinkers. This does not appear to fit with the surname which my research shows is from this country. He had a sister great aunt Fanny, and he inherited land in Lincoln from her (he was a pig farmer) (so the story goes). Unfortunately my grandmother gave little detail of him, as her father had re-married within 6 months of her own mother's death and from what I can gather she had a somewhat unhappy childhood. Her real mother and her father's first wife was a Frances Ashcroft. If anyone could assist please it would be appreciated. I have found little so far and it is like finding a needle in a giant hay stack. My great grandfather had about five children and was primarily based in Lincoln (although as I have said where he came from no one knows) My family are born story tellers and some stories have been passed on word of mouth
Here's hoping someone out there has some clue as I certainly do not at the moment.
With kind regards to everyone
