CROFT CRAFT FAMILY Link Virginia to Oregon
I have finally, after much searching, found the link with my Croft greatgrandfather his brotherwho spelled his name as Jacob Craft. My Ggrandpa David B. Croft of Botetourt Co Virginia and his brother, Jacob Craft, who died in Wasco Co Oregon. I knew that David had a brother, Jacob, and that theyspelled their last name differently. But I couldnt find any real evidence that they were brothers or of who the other sibllings were. Until tonight!
I found a document online submitted to the Oregon Bios Project in Jan. 2005 by Jeffery L. Elmer. Jeffery, if you read this, I send you my most sincere thank you!
The document is of the life of Jacob Craft, son of Daniel Croft and Mary Hamiliton ((YIPPEE the same parents and my ggrandpa)and his move across the country from Va, eventually ending up in Oregon. It lists their othersiblings and the military career oftheir father (my gggandfather) Daniel Croft/Craft. I am thrilled to get the names of the other siblings. The story says that Jacob did not know what happened to his siblingsafter the Civil War, but I am sure many of them settled in Va--mostly in Roanoke, Botetourt, Staunton area, etc. I have found the names listed in the document all throughout my family and other Craft families in the area.
The Crafts/Crofts were quite numerous in Va and still are!
thanks again!
