Karen,
Thank you for getting back to me. My line from Abner & Mary Crandall is through their son Ellery, who married Sophronia Simmons in 1804,and whose son ,John W. Crandall, married Eleanor Sherman.
The Affidavit you included in your message reads almost word for word an entry I saw in a book of abstracts of Revolutionary War Pensions. Once I saw that Mary's father's name was John, I tried to find out who he might be.
The problem is that the name Wilcox, spelled with one L, is quite common in Rhode Island, especially in Tiverton & Little Compton. Spelled with two L's, like Mary & her Father, seems to be more common in Connecticut and in the South. I even thought it might be an error, but there are a number of Willcoxs' in the colonial census of Rhode Island. I have consulted the book Little Compton Families, but no Mary or John Willcox. The search goes on.
Another question I have about this line is the identity of Abner Crandall's mother, Mercy Brownell, the wife of Eber Crandall. While Brownell is also a common name in Tiverton and Little Compton, I can find no trace of her, or who her parents might be.
Finally, you would'nt have any information on Sophronia Simmons or Ellery Crandall. I ask because neither I, or several others I have confered with, can find any documentation of their marriage, even though it most certainly occured in Tiverton or Little Compton in 1804. Sophronia was descended from five passengers on the Mayflower. If you have any suggestions, I would be glad to hear them.
