Hi Don,
I am so excited to find someone who is related to me and is trying to find our family history too!
Hiram was the fifth son of John and Lucinda Whitford, he married Marian Terry, they had four children: Eveline, Norris, Charles and Minda. Hiram is burried in Harmony, NY in Grant, Cem. Evaline is burried in Niobe, NY.
Walter Whitford, son of Hiram and Persis (Cranfield) Whitford was born Oct. 19 1869 and died Jan. 7 1945. His first wife was Anna Carpenter, his second wife was Margaret Balvin Green. Margaret was from Bear Lake, PA. Margaret died March 12, 1940.
Persis Cranfield was born Nov. 11, 1842, died Jan, 1919, NY. Her first husband was Frank Gordon, they had two children, William Perry Gordon b. March-7-1862 NY and Rosie Gordon b.1860-1861 Canada. Frank left (possibly to fight in the Civil War). Persis second husband last name was O'Connely, he died a year after they married. The Federal Census for NY 1860 is impossible for me to read, I think it may have been damaged by water. Do you know where Persis was born in NY? Did any other Cranfield's live in Canada?Persis and her children stayed in the Almshouse in Dewittsville, NY for 36 weeks. This is the only place I've been able to find them. I appreciate you, and am looking forward to hearing from you.
Shiela
