Revolutionary Col. James Craven of eastern North Carolina
Colonel James Craven served as clerk of court in the Chowan District for several counties in eastern North Carolina; as well as a Revolutionary War officer. Under his leadership, a Captain John Alston alsoserved.
I have found no link or connection of this Colonel James Craven with the family of Peter Craven of Orange and Randolph Counties in Piedmont North Carolina, but several of Peter's descendents had the given name of Alston. There was a Colonel William Alston of the Revolutionary War who served as the clerk of court for Chatham County. His brother, Philip Alston lived very near Peter Craven who settled in Randolph County. Colonel William Alston had a son named Oren Datus Alston. Oren Datus Alston was married but had no children by that marriage. One of the descendents of Peter Craven was named Oren Alston Craven. I believe this bears further research.
