Hi Ed,
I have O'Connor ties in Holyoke, Massachusetts and also Hogan ties.I had a huge breakthrough when I contacted St. Jerome's Cemetery. The people there are so helpful, I was truly amazed. With in a week I had all of the information on my granfather's brother and sister that I had been missing for years.Try this, St. Jerome Cemetery, 169 Hampden Street, Holyoke, Massachusetts.(413) 532-6381.
I only had the names of my grandfather's sister and brother one of their spouses and a possible on the other. They searched the gravestones and sent a detailed two page letter with names, dates and funeral homes and last known address of 15 people.Armed with that information I was able to find two living relatives and find that one of my great aunt's may have given birth on Ellis Island. That is something I still have to figure out how to research, but would be very interesting to me and the family Holyoke. Also there is one more cemetery Calvary, but they did not seem to be as accomadating.
Another idea, I did receive several death certificates and they are only $5.00 which is a bargain compared to the $7.00 to $25.00 in other parts of the country. That address is Office of the City Clerk, City Hall, 536 Dwight Street, Holyoke, Massachusetts 01040-5019.( 413) 534-2166 (413) 534-2322 (Fax)One other avenue would be if the person died in Chickopee, that is a different area and Holyoke does not have the records for Chicopee. The phone number for Chicopee is (413) 594-1466 and I was able to get all the information on the phone by telling the clerk I had already paid for it in Holyoke. She must have been in a good mood that day and it only cost me the phone call. But, Holyoke and Chicopee only send typed copies of Death Certificates. When I called they said that everything was packed away in boxes and I could not get a copy of the actual certificate and they do not give you the name of the informant so it is hard to go forward to find distant cousins.St. Jerome's was the best bet and I have yet to contact the funeral home's as they only had answering machines.Hope this helps.Let me know, I would be curious to know if you have the luck I did.
