The personal property tax lists for Hampshire Co., [W] Virginia, 1782-1788, show a "Philip Chrisman Sr." (spelled on the lists in various years as Chrisman/Crisman/Cristman). He is, of course, the progenitor of the Buncombe Co. NC and McMinn Co TN Creasman lines, and of the Fleming Co., KY Chrisman lines. I have seen the following claims/theories written and posted without supporting documentation: a. That his full name was Henry Philip Christman b. That he was b. about 1715 c. That he was born in Germany d. That his father was Jakob Christman b. 1687 If anyone knows the original source for any of these claims or theories, could you please post them? Also, does anyone have information as to why Philip Sr. disappears from the tax lists starting 1789? (I.e., did he die, move, or become part of someone else's household?). Thanks, Lonnie http://chrisman.org Notify Administrator about this message?
