It seems like you and I are searching for similar things. I have an ancestor Edward Austin Earwood who appeared in the TX 1850 LaVaca County census when he was 6. He was living with Wallace(32) and Biddie(38) Chrisman.

My family believes: that Edward's parents are Mary Chrisman and Thomas Earwood. And Mary is Wallace's brother. Wallace was involved in the Indian Removal, met Biddie a Cherokee and moved to TX. Edward went with them because his parents had died. (I don't know the source of these beliefs.) Edward was born in TN. I found a record of a Thomas Earwood and Mary Creasman being married in Lincoln Co., NC.
