If you will read my message of 29 Jan in this same thread to Richard Smyrl Creed it contains more or less all I know about Robert Creed, grandfather of your Alfred LeRoy Creed. As I have said, there are indications that he was from SC.Since SC records aren'ttoo good, and the relationships of the Creeds in early SC are not well known it will be a challenge to determine who his parents were.It is a good guess at this point that most of the Creeds in SC may be descendants of a Matthew Creed found in SC records as early as ca 1750.This Matthew Creed is almost certainly realted to the Matthew Creed found in early VA records as early as ca 1700 who may also be the immigrant ancestor of many early Creed families. It seems likely that this early VA Matthew Creed was an immigrant from England, but there are earlier Creed records in VA and elsewhere.
Regarding Robert Creed's "nationality" he seems most probably an American, but anything is possible. His Creed line may have been in America for four generations. If he had lived a few more years he might well have become a citizen of the Republic of Texas for a few years. As far as the national origin of his ancestors is concerned, keep in mind that he would have four grandparents and eith great-grandparents, and they might have all come form different places.Robert Creed's earliest Creed ancestor was most probably English, and most probably the descendants of this earliest ancestor married persons who were also descendants of English immigrants, but there could be a few marriages to descendants of immigrants from other places. You never know.
A number of Creeds from Ireland immigrated to America in the mid-late 1800s.These Creeds may have been the descendants of Creeds that went from England to Ireland in the 1700s.I feel that the name is originally English, but don't have any good information this.
