I think it is a product of English pronouncition. She is listed as Magdalene on early Creed papers. The Brits called it Maudlin. In another instance of this, another ancestor of mine was named Hinshaw. In usage, this quickly became Hinchey. In court records, the name alternates betwee Hanchee, Hinchee, Hinshaw, etc.
