Hi Dave,
I think think my Margaret McGill married into the Creighton family but am trying to find proof one way or another. She was born in SC ca 1800 according to census records. The McGills were in Kershaw Co., SC, which is where the Thomas Creighton you referenced lived.Margaret did apparently marry in SC and had a couple of children there (this again is from census records). In some information I have on that Creighton line, it shows that Thomas Creighton and Nancy Kirkland had a son, Thomas, and another son Eli whose descendants aren't listed. I was wondering whether one of these 2 could be the husband of Margaret.
Margaret shows up as the head of household in the 1840 Autauga Co., AL, census, next to her sister, Mary Peach who is also head of household. (Could their husbands be elsewhere at this time?)By 1850, Margaret is in Tippah Co., MS, living next to her two brothers and sister (who again is head of household as well as Margaret). Margaret, however did have a son, Thomas Creighton, who was born ca 1849/50 so I suspect her husband was still alive by then unless he was illegitimate. Her children I know of were James W. (born ca 1830 in AL), Lucy (b. ca 1836 in AL), Margaret Amelia (b. ca. 1838 in AL), and Thomas (b. ca 1850 in MS). She apparently had other daughters as in 1840 there were 7 females in the household, Margaret as one and 6 others as well as the 1 male (James W.).
If you have any information on either or both of the two sons of Thomas and Nancy Kirland Creighton I mentioned which could either disprove or support the possibility of their being Margaret's elusive husband, I'd appreciate your sharing it with me.Do you know of other Creighton families in that area of SC who could be possibilities? Thanks for any help.
Pam
