Mark: What source do you show that Elizabeth Criner was indeed the wife of William Brown..(marriage record).. If you are correct, then our non-profit cemetery organization for Mount Paran certainly needs to add this information to our records. The ancestor of John, Thomas, and Garland Burleigh Miller-who were so prominent in the founding of Madison County..was a John Robert Markum Miller..Revolutionary War Veteran from Va..and a founder of Richmond, Virginia. Do you think Elizabeth Criner could be a brother to John and Joseph Criner... Our organization is in the process of repairing the broken monuments in the Miller Family section of Mount Paran.. I discovered an old tombstone wedged underneath the base of Joseph H Miller's tombstone (apparently done to straighten
it)...we haven't tried to remove it..and can't tell if there is any information on the other side!...we will have to completely dismantle Joseph's monument to remove the unknown stone..to avoid breaking it.. If you live in the area, you might want to assist us.. The unknown tombstone could be that of William Brown who died in 1816..I would like to invite you to participate in our organization.. We have made considerable progress at the cemetery -toward our efforts of restoration and preservation...lots of work...all volunteer...let me know if you would like more information on our ourganization. It does seem possible Elizabeth was indeed a Criner! Below is an interesting post on Waddy/Tate.. (Isaac McClure Criner, CSA is buried at the Liberty Cemetery in Madison County..a son of Isaac Criner Sr..he was married to a Strong)

The only information that I have on Waddy Tate whom married Elizabeth Strong is as follows, all of this information comes from the book, Tate and Allied Families of the south. As far as his second marriage, it does have it listed, but not to Lucinda,
Waddy Tate, b. 1789 Louisa Co, VA. His father left no will, however in 1844 there was a Suit in Eduity in which all of the heirs of his father were named. He served in the war of 1812, a fifer in the VA militia under Capt. Nicholas J. Poindexter of the state Artillery. He was discharged 6 July 1814 a distance of 160 miles from home and allowed eight days pay to reach his destination. A miller, he md 6 December 1816 Elizabeth Strong, b ca 1793 VA., dtr of George and Charity (Hickason) Strong. In 1850 his wife was Mary ( could this be a middle name for Lucinda?) b 1833 maiden name unknown to me. In Nov 1844 it was stated by Elisha Jackson that the Waddy Tate family lived on the James River Canal. THis canal was an important and expensive waterway built to connect Richmond with the James River as an outlet to the ocean for the purpose of navigation in early days.
Issue Born, Perkins Store, Louisa Co, VA
Chairty Tate 1817 md 17 Dec 1839 Larkin Trainham
Elizabeth Tate b 1830
Mildred Tate b 1832
Lucy J. Tate b 1834
James H. Tate b 1836
Sarah Tate b 1839
Nancy Tate b 1841
Ellen Page Tate b 1843
Maria Tate b 1845
Waddy Edward Tate b 1847
Puss Tate b 1850
Lizzie Tate b 1856
(Note: None of the children listed above were research by her, so no other information is known!)
I dont know if this will help out any, but you do have the marriage date now, for the marriage between Waddy and Elizabeth Tate!
Good Luck,
Dixie
