Indeed it seems to be a fact that all Cripes in the US have one common ancestor: Jakob Greib, born 1712, who came to Philadelphia with a Palatine ship in 1733. The best document for further reading is, to my mind,

Still it's a mystery where Jakob was born. I'm investigating this in Germany and am quite sure now that he didn't come from here. Traces lead to Alsace and Lorraine at the moment. Of course I will tell all of you as soon as I know more.

Best regards
Steffen
