I sure hope someone answers this. I have been trying to find the answer myself. Well, I do know one thing I would much rather my Father's last name have been Cripe than what it was in our family line years ago of Gripe....:) I guess it could almost be like saying, "Oh Gripes..." The reason for the Gripe I understand is that is how it "sounded" and was thus spelled that way when we arrived in America. Most interesting. All of this is very fascinating to me though sometimes "mind boggling" a bit as well. :) Blessings to all my cousins and ones on the "tree" that I came from during this Holiday Season, Iris/Ira Cripe's daughter
