Crisps of Western NC - Cherokee Heritage?
Hi,
Can anyone tell me if the Crisp family of the Stecoah, NC, area has any blood connections with the Cherokee tribe in the area?
My grandmother's family (Crisps and Shehans) is from the Stecoah area and I've always heard that they were part Cherokee, but I haven't found anything concrete to support this claim on the Crisp side.I have found that several of her ancestors served in Thomas' Legion, a Confederate group composed largely of Cherokee soldiers from Western NC.Other than that I've only got circumstantial evidence, family rumor, and my own inferences to support this claim.
Since this branch of the Crisp family seems to have been so thoroughly researched, I'm hoping someone out there can help me solve this mystery.
My grandmother was Alma Shehan Henderson, and her parents were Theodore Shehan and Cora Crisp Shehan, both from Stecoah, NC.
I appreciate any help anyone can give me with this!- Stephanie F
