Hi Art, I have heard from a man who has a George Binkley & Nelly Earthman marrying in Davidson Co., TN in 1807 & Henry Cromer (I'm sure he's mine!) was bondsman. Now this Binley was b. 1781 at Bethania, N.C. (Stokes Co. at the time, part of the Wachovia tract - a primarily German settlement.) His grandfather, Peter Binkley, emigrated from Alsace in mid 1730's to Pennsylvania (Lancaster & York Cos) before going on to N.C. Then Johann Binkley moved his family, including George, to the Nashville TN area in 1799.

Do those surnames ring any Cromer bells? This guy thinks that Earthman was probably a curruption of the name, Ertman. Also, he asked about "Gotlip Cromes" on the 1800 Stokes Co., N.C. census. Do you know anything about him? Might my "Godfos" have been Gotlip?

Thanks for any help. Joan jmrh@midwest.net
