Hi,
This is a collateral line of my husband.James CROMPTON, Jr. married to Margaret GOURLEY, sister of my husbands gr-gr-grandmother Emma GOURLEY, both children of James GOURLEY and Margaret [ROCHE?].Emma married to John R. BROWN of Manchester, England, which--like Bury--is in Lancashire, England. All these people worked in the fabric mills, so I wonder if they new each other in England. The GOURLEYs were from northern IRELAND, but could have gone to England before America, I don't know.Anyway, Margaret (GOURLEY) and James CROMPTON removed from Thompsonville (Enfield), Hartford Co., CT to Chicopee, Hampton Co., MA.Their son William Ralph CROMPTON married first cousin Emma C. BROWN, daughter of Emma GOURLEY and John R. BROWN, who were also the parents of my husband's gr-grandmother Mary Elizabeth BROWN, born 6 Jun 1869, Hyde Park, Boston, MA, married c1892 William L. DOUGLAS in Willimantic, Windham Co., CT.The DOUGLAS family resided in Springfield, MA where my husband was born.
Do you have James CROMPTON Sr. and wife Ann plus family in the census of 1841 for England?I have it if you need it.Also have them for 1850-1870.I know nothing of the James' ancestry nor Ann's and wonder if John R. BROWN is related to them in any way.
