I'm also interested in this family, particularly Amos Crone. In the 1850 census, my g-g-grandfather George Franklin Milton/Melton was living with Amos and Elizabeth Crone/Crown in Augusta County, VA.He was about 4 years old.Amos Crone was a witness when George Franklin's mother, Susan Jane Milton, married David Sprouse in 1846 in Augusta County. In the 1860 census, the Sprouse family, the Crones, and George Franklin Melton were all living together, still in Augusta County.
I'm trying to discover the relationship between the Crones, Sprouses and Miltons.
I believe Amos' parents may have been Henry and Phoebe Tharp Crone who married in Augusta County in 1806.
In 1865, a widowed Amos married the widowed Margaret Jane Ramsbottom, daughter of Unnamed Hemp. Both claimed to have been born in Augusta County.
In 1870 I found them living in Rockbridge County with several Ramsbottom and Glass family members. They were listed as Amos and Margaret A. Crowe.
In 1880, they are still in Rockbridge County, VA, this time listed as Amos and Margaret Crome. To confuse things further, there are three Crome children living with them, identified as daughters Minie 12, Babes 9 and Sidney 8.Amos's age is listed as 70, and Margaret's as 60, so it's doubtful that these are their biological children.
If anyone has any other information on this line, or any of the Augusta County Crones/Crauns, I would love to hear from you.
