Hi Daphne,

I think you might be referring to my Grandad, he was born around the time you mention at the elephant & Castle, his father was a Tailor he had 2 brothers not sure about a sister. He was orphaned at some point. He hated the name Adolphus so he used his middle name James. He died 1 August 1972.

Kathy Burgar (from your forum) gave me this information:

Births Dec quarter 1895

Crook Adolphus James St. Saviour 1d 65

the date means when the birth was registered not when it actually happened, so was registered any time from Oct 1st to Dec 31 but birth happened usually in the 3-6 months before that

England & Wales, Death Index: 1916-2006
about James Crook
Name:James Crook
Birth Date:24 Aug 1895
Date of Registration:Jul-Aug-Sep 1973
Age at Death:78
Registration district:Maidenhead
Inferred County:Berkshire
Volume:6a
Page:130

It would be nice to know if we a talking about the same person as we don't know too much about his parents.
