Ann Cropper was the wife of Captain Kendall S. Cropper who died in 1848. He and his three brothers founded Chesapeake City MD in 1833. I have yet to positively identify Kendall Cropper's parents. One clue is that in the same 1850 census that you mentioned, 75 year old Thomas D. Cropper lives two doors down from the recently widowed Ann (Nancy) White Cropper.Likely this would be Kendall's brother? Another mentioned as a possible brother of Kendall is a William Cropper, as both Kendall and William each adopted one of a pair of orphaned brothers before 1810. In 1870, Kendall and Ann's daughter-in-law, Eliza Lackey Cropper, the widow of Kendall's son, Samuel Peter Cropper, was living in Philadelphia and one of the people listed in the census in her house was John H. Cropper, who was born in Delaware and most likely is a grandson of Kendall and Ann. Ann was born in Virginia and was the daughter of Jacob White and the granddaughter of Ambrose and Bathsheba White. I don't know who the Hunter woman is that she is listed with in the 1850 census. So if a Cropper male, born around 1750, with sons Kendall, William and Thomas and an unknown fourth son could be found in either Maryland or Delaware, that would pinpoint where this line originated. Hope this helps, although I can't speak about any connection to the Wise family. Would be glad to hear from you if you have found out anything further! Roberta Cropper Dell.
