Thanks for the pointers. Since I posted this message, I've been casting my net fairly widely..Here are some of the relationships between the Beauford/Bufords, Sneed/Sneads, Horns and Crosland/Crosslands that I'm looking at.
1. What were the links between the Croslands, Sneads and Horns?
a. There are two Ann Sneads who link with Croslands.
i. One is the Ann Temperance Snead (daughter of Samuel Snead and Temperance Beaufort/Buford). She married Edward Crosland and they were the progenitors of the Croslands who are well documented.
ii. The other is the Ann Crosland Snead who married Lawrence (van) Horn(e). I haven’t found any primary documentation on her. She may well be a daughter of Israel Snead (son of Samuel) and sister of Henley Snead but she’s not in Israel’s will (transcribed and posted on the web) and she’s not in the Snead Notebook (which focuses on the descendants of Henley Snead). Her middle name supports the close relationship between Croslands and Sneads.
b. One of Lawrence Horn and Ann Crosland Snead’s daughters was named Ann Crosland Horn (married William Lysander Jackson Reid)
c. Daniel Alexander Horn was one of Lawrence Horn/Ann Crosland Snead’s sons. In his diaries, there are frequent mentions of visits between the Horns and Croslands in the mid-late 1800s.
2. How does the Beaufort/Buford family link up with the Sneads and Horns?
a. Samuel Snead’s wife was Temperance Buford. Who were Temperance Buford’s parents? She’s not in the Buford Family genealogy that was published ~1924.
b. One of the daughters of Lawrence Horn and Ann Crosland Snead was Temperance Buford Horn (she married James Alexander (Sandy) Liles—a well-documented line). So there’s a connection.
I'm certainly interested in maintaining this discussion on or off-line.
